A New Year’s Day trip to Dodi Island cruising with the Dodi Princess is actually a story worth telling. It’s one of the most unique experiences around the Volta Lake you can't afford to miss.
On 1st January 2026, We welcomed the New Year in a very memorable special way. A cruise to Dodi Island aboard the famous Dodi Princess on the Volta Lake. Our journey started from Accra as early as 5am with our fully air - conditioned bus giving us west life music jazz as the sun rises. We were over 52 onboard as we drove through the beautiful city of Accra to Akosombo. We walked cross the iconic Adomi bridge taking pictures and experiencing the ever wanders of man made.
The cruising started at Akosombo where the excitement was already in the air. As soon as the yacht set sail, the cool breeze from the lake and the beautiful views of the mountains instantly changed the mood. The yacht had two separate rooms, the top and down. The top was where exciting music was playing and the music lovers were dancing, laughing, and taking pictures. On the other part of the yacht was live band thrilling us with indigenous Ghanaian highlife.
We had a lot of indoor games ranging from ludo, oware, cards, video gaming and many more Making everyone onboard having something exciting them. It felt like a floating festival.
The ride itself was unforgettable. The calmness of the Volta Lake, the sound of the water, and the peaceful environment made me forget all the stress of the past year. It was the perfect way to reset my mind for 2026.
When we finally arrived at Dodi Island, the natural beauty was amazing. The green vegetation, quiet atmosphere, and fresh air made the place feel like a hidden paradise. We walked around, dance to the local music with the local people, play volleyball, explored, ride on their canoes, relaxed, and enjoyed the moment. For a while, it felt like time slowed down.
The entertainment on the yacht back was even livelier, dancing, food, drinks and great company all the way until we docked again at Akosombo. By the end of the trip, We weren't just tired, we was refreshed and happy.
Starting the year on the Dodi Princess was not just a trip, it was an experience, a memory, and a blessing. If you ever get the chance to join us, don’t miss it. Sometimes the best way to begin a new year is not with noise in the city, but with peace on the water.

We journeyed from Kintampo to the Savannah Region, where our first stop was the inspiring Red Clay Studio—an artistic haven blending creativity with culture. We then explored the historic Larabanga Mosque, one of the oldest in West Africa. The day ended with a thrilling visit to Mole National Park, where we encountered the diverse wildlife in their natural habitat—a perfect blend of culture, art, and nature.
Day 3 Adventure Summary
We wrapped up our journey at the serene Botanga Eco Resort, where we cruised the calm waters, enjoyed thrilling jet rides, and took refreshing swims. As night fell, we gathered around a cozy bonfire under the stars, sharing stories and watching movies—ending our adventure with laughter, warmth, and unforgettable memories.
